A woman seeks advice on changing her appearance at her husband’s suggestion, and transforms herself beyond his ability to comprehend.
Like most of the Aickman stories I’ve read, this one is subtly weird and uncomfortable without being outright horrific, which makes it somehow more unsettling than if it had been a blatantly supernatural tale of transformation. Nesta’s changes are subtle at first – painted nails, makeup – and become increasingly strange; but even the small changes are too much for her husband to deal with.
